Abraham Lincoln, c. 1860, photographer unknown. Tintype. John A. Farrace Bequest 1989.1.2 © The Lewes Historical Society

The John A. Farrace Bequest was quite a surprise to the Society when word of it reached then President Judy A. Roberts. Mr. Farrace had been a voracious collector of Americana and Delawareana and had amassed a large collection of sidearms, swords, documents, furnishings, clocks, photographs and a massive research library to help him support his collection.

This month, we look at a specific facet of Mr. Farrace's bequest - his Lincoln Collection - and particular this tintype of President Lincoln. Mr. Farrace's Lincolnalia contains tickets and programs to his funeral, tickets to President Johnson's impeachment, commemorative bookmarks, playbills from Ford's theater and an army document signed by Lincoln, among other items.

To honor the memory of Lincoln's Assassination, the Society has chosen to highlight this particular facet of Mr. Farrace's bequest.
